YB's Yoon Do-hyun and Manager Kim Jung-il: A Heartwarming Tale of Friendship Amidst Industry Turmoil
On the November 11th episode of MBC's variety show 'The Manager' (Episode 393), the touching story of South Korea's rock legend Yoon Do-hyun and his manager Kim Jung-il, who transitioned from a 30-year fan to a 12-year partner, was unveiled.
Kim Jung-il, who once collected all YB albums and attended every concert with drinks in hand, has become closer than family to Yoon Do-hyun. The history of their partnership, as described by the show's commentators, is akin to a movie. Yoon Do-hyun shared an anecdote about how Kim Jung-il personally visited universities to persuade student councils to book YB for festivals, stating, "Working with Jung-il is a blessing for me." This passion for the artist propelled YB to become the top choice for university festivals, performing at 17 in a year.
The 30th-anniversary national tour concert in Jeonju, the 18th city since the tour began in November 2025, was a testament to their journey. Yoon Do-hyun captivated the audience with his performance, from 'Peppermint Candy' to 'White Whale,' songs that have comforted many. The concert, filled with sing-alongs and cheers, demonstrated why YB remains beloved after 31 years. Kim Jung-il, enjoying the show like a fifth band member, and the audience's enthusiastic response highlighted YB's enduring appeal. In a video message, Kim Jung-il expressed gratitude for being able to tour with Yoon again, to which Yoon responded with a spirited "Rock 'n' Roll!" The show's commentators also cheered for the duo's everlasting friendship.
Next week's episode will feature Lee Joo-yeon, who debuted as the visual center of After School and has since become an actress. The show will reveal her quirky daily life, from her maximalist lifestyle to her constant 'photo time' for social media. Additionally, the episode will showcase Yang Sang-guk, the hottest comedian and 'Prince of Gimhae,' known for his rustic yet luxurious lifestyle and his surprising role as a 10-year professional racer supported by major corporations.
