IU's Character Proposes Contract Marriage in '21st Century Grand Lady'

In the latest episode of MBC's drama '21st Century Grand Lady,' IU's character, Seong Hee-joo, proposes a contract marriage to Lee An-daegun, played by Byeon Woo-seok.

The episode, which aired on the 11th, showcased a unique proposal scene where Seong Hee-joo approaches Lee An-daegun with a marriage offer.

Their conversation was far from a typical proposal. When Lee An-daegun asked, "List your conditions," Seong Hee-joo confidently replied, "I have a lot of money."

Lee An-daegun, expecting a more creative response, expressed his disappointment, to which Seong Hee-joo pragmatically responded, "Why bother being creative? A contract marriage is predictable."

Seong Hee-joo then listed her attributes, saying, "I have a good education, I'm capable, and though I'm a woman, I'm a capable and wealthy illegitimate child." She added, "Do you know how much criticism I endure daily? Use me as your shield."

She was willing to endure a divorce once the contract ended, prioritizing conditions over emotions. However, the outcome was not as she expected.

Lee An-daegun was firm in his refusal, stating, "I will decline," and emphasized that there are more important things than wealth, capability, and beauty.

Afterward, Seong Hee-joo calmly informed her secretary of the rejection, saying, "He wants a love marriage," and remarked, "It's like he's telling me to go to hell. Anyway, people like us end up together." Despite the rejection, she continued to pursue Lee An-daegun, following his schedule with determination.
