Netflix movie ‘I Just Dropped My Smartphone’ Production Briefing

At 11 a.m. on the 15th, a production briefing session for the Netflix movie 'I Just Dropped My Smartphone' (director Kim Tae-jun, hereinafter referred to as 'Just Dropped My Smartphone') was held at Lotte Cinema at the entrance to Konkuk University in Seoul, and directors Im Si-wan, Chun Woo-hee, Kim Hee-won, and Kim Tae-jun attended.
Im Si-wan, Chun Woo-hee, and Kim Hee-won shared their reasons for participating in this work. Im Si-wan said, "Kim Hee-won contacted me for tea and we talked for three hours. He gave me the script while taking me home. I read it and the script was well structured, so I read it all on the spot."

Kim Hee-won said she would do it without even seeing the script due to her relationship with the unknown CEO of the film company that produced this work, but she liked it even more after seeing the script. Kim Hee-won laughed, saying, “It’s a good script that ruins a good relationship.”
Regarding the reason for recommending Im Si-wan, Kim Hee-won said, "He has an upright and very clean image, and I recommended it because I thought it would be shocking to play a role like this." The director also said, "Usually when I think of a character, I think, 'What if a weapon becomes a person?' 'What if a kitchen knife became a person?' “I think about this. When I thought about if the latest smartphone could become a person, the only thing that came to mind was Im Si-wan,” he said, adding, “I thought that if an evil character was attached to a smart, upright and clear image, a three-dimensional image would come out.” He shared the reason for casting Im Si-wan. .
Director Kim continued, "I had a hard time grasping the character of Nami while writing the scenario. Then, while watching a YouTube video containing Chun Woo-hee's daily life, I thought, 'This is Nami.'" He added, "I incorporated Actress Chun Woo-hee's speaking style and various personalities into the character. “I definitely wanted to do it together, so I was fortunate,” he said. He emphasized, "In the case of Nami, the amplitude of the most dramatic and expressive emotions was large, so the only actor who could digest the extreme emotions in detail was Chun Woo-hee."

Chun Woo-hee said, "I wanted to portray a defenseless victim by dropping the cell phone that is my soul. I also wanted to show a universal image through scenes of ordinary work life, even though I have never worked." He also said, “I think it was the work that most incorporated my tone of voice, my emotions, and my reactions, just as the director wanted.”
Im Si-wan, Chun Woo-hee, and Kim Hee-won gave a thumbs up, saying they were surprised by each other's acting and learned a lot from each other on set. In particular, Chun Woo-hee said of Im Si-wan, "He is in sync with the character of Jun-young in the drama. He has the feeling of a clear-eyed madman. It's not a bad thing, but he always has a strange feeling about him." He added, "This guy is very smart, very calculated and meticulous. He said, “Acting-wise, he’s great and he puts a lot of effort into it. He prepares a lot and I was surprised at how thorough this guy was about his work. I saw a lot and learned a lot from him.”

Regarding taking on the role of a villain in this work following the movie 'Emergency Declaration', Im Si-wan said, "Coincidentally, it happened at a similar time, so I think I'll be able to think in similar ways." He added, "The expression 'clear-eyed madman' was appreciated. “I think you said that, but in reality, that’s not the case. If I play the role of a Seon, I think I will come out as that person rather than a clear-eyed madman. I hope people will look forward to it as well.”

He continued, "I think the way to enjoy a thriller movie is to watch it first. I hope you watch this movie faster than anyone else."

Released on Netflix on February 17th.
