Kwon Min-jung stars in 'The Cherry Orchard', one of the four major plays by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. The play tells the story of a declining aristocratic family facing loss and memories amidst a changing era. Directed and translated by Jeon Hoon, the production stays true to the original narrative, focusing on the aristocrat Ranevskaya, who returns to her cherished cherry orchard after five years abroad.
Kwon Min-jung took to the stage on the 17th, playing the role of Ranevskaya, the landowner determined to preserve her cherry orchard. Ranevskaya is portrayed as an honest, kind-hearted character who is open about her feelings.
To convincingly convey Ranevskaya's emotions, Kwon Min-jung focused on her monologue scenes, delivering nuanced emotions. Rather than definitively interpreting the character's choices and feelings, she embraced them as they are, adding depth to the character. This marks her third collaboration with director Jeon Hoon, adding significance to the performance. Kwon Min-jung's portrayal of living in the moment on stage has garnered praise from audiences.
Kwon Min-jung expressed, "I hope my portrayal of Ranevskaya in 2026 leaves a meaningful impression on the audience. I've prepared with sincerity, so I ask for your support and anticipation." Her return to the stage raises expectations for the depth of her performance in this production.
Meanwhile, 'The Cherry Orchard', featuring Kwon Min-jung, is available for viewing at the Anton Chekhov Theater until May 31.
