'21st Century Grand Duchess' Achieves Milestone in U.S. Market with Disney+ Success
Since its premiere, the MBC Friday-Saturday drama '21st Century Grand Duchess' has consistently topped viewership ratings, buzz rankings, and OTT charts. As of the 3rd, it became the first K-drama to enter the U.S. Disney+ TOP10 for 21 consecutive days, maintaining its long-term success.
According to FlixPatrol, a global OTT ranking site, '21st Century Grand Duchess' has remained in the U.S. Disney+ TOP10 since April 12. In a market that favors genres like crime, investigation, and sci-fi, this K-romance is captivating American audiences.
The drama's continuous presence in the U.S. TOP10 is a monumental achievement, surpassing mere global popularity. While many K-dramas achieve high global rankings, they often have short-lived success in the U.S. market. '21st Century Grand Duchess' stands out by securing both solid trust and buzz in the U.S., showcasing differentiated success.
The drama has also entered the TOP10 in 47 countries, including English-speaking regions, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, demonstrating widespread appeal. Domestically, it has consistently ranked first in viewership ratings in the metropolitan area, nationwide, and among viewers aged 20-54 since its premiere. It has also dominated TV-OTT drama buzz and drama cast buzz rankings.
An MBC representative stated, "The sustained success in the U.S. market is a crucial indicator of content competitiveness," adding, "'21st Century Grand Duchess' is gaining popularity across various cultures, showcasing new expansion possibilities for K-dramas."
In episodes 7 and 8, Seong Hee-joo (played by IU) and Lee An-daegun (played by Byeon Woo-seok) held a wedding ceremony, becoming a true couple and deepening their romance. However, their sweet newlywed life is short-lived as their prenuptial agreement is revealed, hinting at significant upcoming developments and raising curiosity about future storylines.
