Singer Hong Ji-yoon delivered a stunning performance, avenging her previous defeat in the first round.

On the episode of MBN's '2026 Korea-Japan King of Singers' aired on the 28th, Hong Ji-yoon participated in the second round of the finals, competing in the 'One Song Battle'.

In this episode, Hong Ji-yoon faced off against Japan's Azuma Aki, both performing Na Hoon-a's 'Why Are You Crying'. With only one winner in this head-to-head battle, Hong Ji-yoon showed her determination to win.

After her loss in the first round, Hong Ji-yoon was determined to make a comeback in the second round, stating, “I am focused solely on redeeming the humiliation of my first-round defeat.”

Dressed in a glamorous and elegant outfit, Hong Ji-yoon took the stage, delivering Na Hoon-a's traditional trot song with her clear and delicate voice, adding a modern and sophisticated twist. Her intricate and precise vocal techniques enhanced the song's flavor, and she perfectly matched the emotional tone when singing alongside Azuma Aki.

Japanese singer Utakogoro Rie praised Hong Ji-yoon's performance, saying, “The blend of Hong Ji-yoon's bright voice with Aki's relaxed and stable voice was incredibly beautiful.” Hong Ji-yoon scored 91 points, defeating Azuma Aki and securing a victory for the Korean team. Kim Soo-chan commented, “It seems they appreciated Hong Ji-yoon's incorporation of enka techniques,” while Azuma Aki admitted after the performance, “There's no way to beat the king of singers.”

Meanwhile, MBN's '2026 Korea-Japan King of Singers', featuring Hong Ji-yoon, airs every Tuesday at 9:30 PM. Additionally, Hong Ji-yoon will participate in the 'Current King of Singers 3' national tour concert in Daegu on May 2nd and 3rd.
