Choi Go-gi and Yu Gyeol-ip Find New Beginnings After 7 Years of Divorce
On the final episode of TV CHOSUN's 'X's Private Life' aired on the 21st, Choi Go-gi (Choi Beom-gyu) appeared alongside hosts Kim Gu-ra, Jang Yoon-jung, Jung Kyung-mi, and Cheon Rok-dam to observe the post-divorce life of his ex-wife, Yu Gyeol-ip (Yu Ye-rin). Yu Gyeol-ip emotionally confessed, "My daughter is the goal of my life," and surprised everyone by revealing her single boyfriend.
Upon Choi Go-gi's appearance, Jang Yoon-jung remarked, "The engagement ring stands out. Congratulations on your remarriage." Last week, Choi Go-gi made headlines by proposing to his girlfriend of five years. When asked about his feelings, he admitted, "It's a bit strange. I don't want to watch the VCR, but I do," expressing his mixed emotions. The VCR revealed Yu Gyeol-ip's current life as a beauty creator with 320,000 subscribers, and she candidly shared her journey from a marriage that began with a premarital pregnancy at 23, to conflicts with in-laws, frequent arguments, and ultimately divorce.
Yu Gyeol-ip revealed, "We divorced the day after a big fight," and added, "I left with nothing, and for months, my income was zero," shocking everyone. Choi Go-gi explained, "The house was provided by my father, so I returned everything after the divorce. I also left with nothing."
Yu Gyeol-ip, preparing for her YouTube content, filmed herself receiving skincare treatments and shared, "As a freelancer, there are times when my income is zero. I started working part-time because of child support," before heading to a café for work. Later, she recounted an encounter with Choi Go-gi and his girlfriend at a friend's wedding, to which Kim Gu-ra noted, "Even after divorce, connections remain. That's why a good separation is important."
Hearing about her daughter's life from a close friend, Yu Gyeol-ip tearfully admitted, "After the divorce, there's nothing I can do, and I feel so sorry," and after a video call with her daughter, she cried, "I'm always sorry for not being a good mom, but why does she like me so much?" Despite her tears, she expressed deep affection, saying, "My daughter is my goal and direction," while Choi Go-gi offered gentle comfort.
During a visitation, Yu Gyeol-ip spent time with her daughter at a sauna. She suggested drawing a 'family picture,' and her daughter depicted Yu Gyeol-ip at a distance. Choi Go-gi confessed, "It breaks my heart." Yu Gyeol-ip asked her daughter, "What do you like about me, even though I can't take good care of you?" Her daughter replied, "I just like you like this. I can see you're trying to earn money to buy me delicious food," touching everyone. After the visitation, Yu Gyeol-ip expressed, "I'm happy but sorry," while Choi Go-gi smiled, "She seemed happier than when she's with me."
A few days later, the atmosphere shifted during 'X's Blind Date.' Yu Gyeol-ip declared, "I definitely prefer ordinary people now," and unexpectedly, a café owner appeared at the blind date, shocking everyone. Yu Gyeol-ip shyly admitted, "I've never revealed my boyfriend before," and the hosts were wide-eyed, asking, "Is this real?" Her boyfriend, who had known her for a long time, stated, "I was fond of her because she's my younger sibling's friend and pretty," and assured, "Her divorce and child are not an issue."
The couple enjoyed a photo booth and grilled pork belly date, naturally discussing remarriage. Her boyfriend expressed, "I want to be good to Sol-ip," adding sincerity. He shared, "My family likes Gyeol-ip more than me. She's good to the elders," creating a warm atmosphere. Yu Gyeol-ip had a friendly phone call with her boyfriend's father, hinting at the possibility of a new family. Finally, when Jung Kyung-mi asked, "How would you feel if your daughter called Yu Gyeol-ip's boyfriend 'dad'?" Choi Go-gi was visibly flustered, "That's a tough question. I haven't thought about it. I probably wouldn't allow it," but sincerely wished Yu Gyeol-ip happiness, "I'm so glad you look happy. I hope you're even happier."
