Choi Go-gi Reveals Reasons Behind Divorce from Yu Gye-ppip on 'X's Private Life'
On the October 14th episode of TV Chosun's 'X's Private Life', Yu Gye-ppip (Yu Ye-rin), who is seven years post-divorce, appeared in the studio to observe the daily life of her ex-husband, Choi Go-gi (Choi Beom-gyu), after their separation.
During the show, Choi Go-gi reminisced about his first meeting and married life with Yu Gye-ppip, revealing, "Shortly after we started dating, we found out we were expecting a child. We registered our marriage and held a wedding," explaining that their daughter was born just two months after their wedding, which took place six months into their relationship.
Choi Go-gi, who divorced after four years of marriage, stated, "I divorced thinking, 'Why can't she understand my feelings?' I felt we were incompatible. I have a strict sense of time, but she is more free-spirited. We often fought over our different lifestyles."
There was also conflict between the families over the dowry. Choi's family, who provided the house, demanded a dowry of 50 million won, but Yu's family argued, "Didn't we agree not to exchange dowries?" and prepared only 10 million won. Commentator Kim Gu-ra remarked, "It's not like they're creditors and debtors; they met out of love, so setting a specific amount seems inappropriate."
Choi Go-gi also mentioned, "She wasn't very warm to the elders," revealing that his father had rated his ex-wife poorly as both a woman and a parent. He admitted, "I was criticized a lot for not being able to mediate." Yu Gye-ppip agreed with Choi's statements, saying, "The work-related issues and conflicts with my father-in-law were the biggest problems." The two also disagreed on who first requested the divorce.
