Hae-rin Ha Discusses Her Grandmother, Actress Son Sook, at 'Bridgerton 4' Press Conference

Actress Hae-rin Ha spoke about her grandmother, actress Son Sook.

On the 4th, a press conference for Netflix's 'Bridgerton 4' was held at Community House Masil in Jung-gu, Seoul, where actress Hae-rin Ha shared her thoughts.

Netflix's 'Bridgerton' Season 4 is a romantic series that explores love, identity, and class boundaries between the free-spirited Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Beck (Hae-rin Ha), a maid he meets at a masquerade ball. Korean-American actress Hae-rin Ha, known for her roles in Netflix's 'Survivors' and the drama 'Halo,' takes on the role of Sophie, garnering significant attention.

Hae-rin Ha is also well-known as the granddaughter of actress Son Sook. Regarding her grandmother's reaction, Hae-rin said, "She didn't give any special advice," adding, "It seems she watched 'Bridgerton' with fellow actors. Despite her poor eyesight, she sent me a message saying 'I'm proud of you, I love you,' which warmed my heart."

She continued, "This morning, she mentioned seeing a nude scene in the show and said it was 'embarrassing.' I thought she would skip those scenes, but she watched them all, which surprised me," she laughed.

Hae-rin Ha's inspiration to pursue acting also came from her grandmother, Son Sook. She said, "Watching my grandmother's plays made me dream of becoming an actress. When I visited Korea once a year, I would watch her plays, and I vividly remember a scene where she hugged a pillow like a baby and cried in a one-person play."

She added, "Seeing the audience cry along made me realize 'this is the power of art.' I thought it was amazing that theater could provide comfort and empathy, as human emotions are similar."

Hae-rin Ha said, "Watching my grandmother on stage made me realize 'being an actor is truly achievable,' and it inspired me. I'm planning to watch her play tomorrow. Although I'm leaving Korea on Friday, she insisted I come, so I will. It will feel different from before."

She continued, "I saw her at another filming location this morning. In the past, I was 'Son Sook's granddaughter Hae-rin,' but now people say 'Hae-rin's grandmother Son Sook,' which makes me feel bittersweet yet happy."

Finally, she shared, "My grandmother always says, 'I have no regrets now. It's okay if I die tomorrow,' which made everyone laugh."
