Actor Park Sung-hoon, who took a hiatus following a controversy over posting explicit content, is set to return to the small screen. His comeback project is a romantic comedy, signaling his intent to face public scrutiny head-on.

In December 2024, Park faced backlash after posting a parody of Netflix's 'Squid Game' Season 2 using a Japanese adult film poster on social media. Although the post was deleted within a minute, screenshots spread rapidly, leading to the 'explicit content controversy.'

His agency explained it was a mistake while checking a direct message, but public disappointment was significant. Park later expressed his regret in an interview, tearfully apologizing for his 'thoughtless action' and acknowledging it as an unforgivable mistake.

As a result, Park stepped down from his lead role in the tvN drama 'The Tyrant's Chef.' During his absence, Lee Chae-min, who replaced him, rose to fame as the drama achieved global success.

Industry insiders expected Park to choose a genre piece for his return. However, he opted for JTBC's new weekend drama 'Efficient Meeting of Singles.' In this project, Park will star alongside fellow agency actor Han Ji-min, sharing a romantic storyline.

'Efficient Meeting of Singles' follows a woman who, determined to find love, goes on a blind date and meets two men with different charms, ultimately discovering the true meaning of love. Park plays Song Tae-seop, a woodworking company CEO with a gentle exterior and a strong interior, embodying the 'ideal boyfriend' archetype.

At the press conference on the 26th, Park stated, "Standing in front of the public after a long time makes me nervous. I've been approaching my work and life with caution and seriousness." On choosing 'Singles' as his comeback, he said, "As a fan of Han Ji-min, I wanted to work with her. I've often portrayed rough characters, and I thought this would be a chance to show a new side of me."

When asked if he felt pressured returning with a romance, Park added, "I had a thirst and longing for romantic comedies, so I approached filming with anticipation."

Public opinion on Park's return remains divided. Some support him, citing his strong acting skills, while others express concern that his past controversy might overshadow his performance in the romance genre.

Ultimately, the key lies in Park's ability to transform his image. As he navigates the challenges of being labeled a 'villain actor' and overcoming personal controversies, all eyes are on whether his romance with Han Ji-min can win back viewers' hearts.
