Unveiling the Truth: 'Brave Detectives' Exposes Chilling Crimes
The first case presented was a chilling story of a body discovered after 16 years. It began when a worker, conducting waterproofing repairs on a multi-family residence rooftop, reported finding what appeared to be a corpse. The body was found in a suitcase, encased in vacuum-sealed plastic, and buried under cement. The victim, a woman in her late 30s, had been missing for 16 years and was identified as a former tenant of the rooftop apartment. Her cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head. Investigators focused on her former cohabitant, Mr. Lee (alias), as the prime suspect.
Mr. Lee, with a criminal record of 13 offenses including drug-related charges, had previously claimed the victim left due to relationship issues. Upon arrest, he was incoherent and tested positive for drugs. He admitted to assaulting the victim but denied intent to kill. Witnesses revealed the victim suffered from habitual abuse and financial exploitation, with evidence suggesting forced prostitution. Mr. Lee received a 16-year and 6-month prison sentence, though the statute of limitations prevented charges for concealing the body.
CCTV footage showed a man and an elderly woman fleeing the scene. The woman, later identified as an employee, was coerced by the perpetrator, who threatened her family. The suspect, a previous customer in his 20s or 30s, had demanded a refund after a massage and, upon refusal, strangled the owner. He stole cash, the victim's phone, and the CCTV system before setting the body on fire.
Detectives reviewed around 150 CCTV recordings, identifying the suspect, who had a history of theft and violent crimes. Shockingly, his grandmother opened the door during his arrest. Confronted with CCTV evidence, he confessed, revealing the location of the hidden CCTV system. He claimed anger at being disrespected led to his actions. The court sentenced him to 30 years in prison. Commentator Ahn Jung-hwan remarked on the suspect's dehumanizing view of others.
