Late Actress Kim Soo-mi Honored with Special Appreciation Award at 2024 MBC Drama Awards

The late Kim Soo-mi was posthumously honored with a Special Appreciation Award at the '2024 MBC Drama Awards'.

The event was broadcast on the evening of the 5th. Although the MBC Drama Awards ceremony was held on the 30th of last month, it was not aired live due to the national mourning period following the tragic incident at Muan Airport. Instead, a recorded version was shown. The ceremony was hosted by Kim Sung-joo and Chae Soo-bin.

Kim Soo-mi's daughter-in-law, actress Seo Hyo-rim, accepted the award on her behalf. Seo Hyo-rim was moved to tears during a tribute video dedicated to Kim Soo-mi.

Seo Hyo-rim shared, “My mother-in-law debuted as part of the third open recruitment at MBC in 1970. The first time I met her was on the 2017 MBC drama 'Man Who Sets the Table', where we played mother and daughter. MBC brought us together.” She continued, “I wanted to share happy words as we look forward to the new year, but our beloved South Korea is going through so much pain. I thought things would get brighter once I overcame my own pain, but hearing sad news at the end of the year makes me wonder how to cope.” She added, “I want to live for tomorrow. My mother-in-law used to say, 'Yesterday is the past, today is a gift, and tomorrow is a mystery.' I want to live the gift of today and the mystery of tomorrow. I am grateful to the MBC staff for allowing us to conclude with my mother-in-law. I hope the new year brings healing to all the people who are suffering.”
