Baek Sung-hyun Reveals Emergency Surgery for Osteochondroma Last Year
Actor Baek Sung-hyun recently disclosed that he underwent emergency surgery for osteochondroma last year.
On the October 14th episode of SBS's variety show 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny' (hereafter 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2'), the couple Baek Sung-hyun and Jo Da-bom, who have been married for five years, made an appearance.
During the show, Baek Sung-hyun shared, "Right after we got married, we had our first child. I became the head of the household as soon as I became a husband," expressing how this brought a strong sense of responsibility. He revealed that during his hiatus, he worked as a day laborer at construction sites. He also mentioned his role as an MC, stating, "Now that the daily drama 'Our Lucky Day' has ended, I'm back to being unemployed. There's a sense of anxiety. I'm ready to shine wherever there's a social event," actively promoting himself as an event MC. His wife, Jo Da-bom, recalled the time when Baek worked as a day laborer, expressing concern, "He worked even though his leg was hurting before starting a drama." Baek explained, "I injured my heel while exercising. When you injure your heel, it affects your walking, which can lead to issues with your knee and hip. In October last year, my hip started hurting, and the hospital said it was inflammation. Even after taking anti-inflammatory and pain medications for a week, there was no effect."
He continued, "Even after getting joint injections at a major hospital, the pain returned, and it was so severe that even a slight bump from the kids would cause cold sweats. At a general hospital, an MRI revealed an osteochondroma, a tumor found inside the hip joint. It's a tumor that can occur anywhere on the bone, but it's particularly problematic when it occurs in a joint," he explained, revealing that he underwent surgery to remove the tumor.
Baek Sung-hyun added, "It took a long time to get to the general hospital, and my body was completely misaligned. Although the tumor was successfully removed, my upper and lower body were completely twisted, and it took a long time to rehabilitate."
The situation was reportedly severe. Baek stated, "There was a 9cm difference in leg length. I almost couldn't film the drama," but assured that he is "okay" now.
