Comedian Bae Yeon-jung Opens Up About 26-Year Battle with Diabetes Post-Pancreatic Surgery
On the October 25th episode of TV Chosun's 'Perfect Life,' Bae Yeon-jung appeared alongside her husband, Kim Do-man.
Known for her culinary skills, Bae Yeon-jung has often prepared dishes for panelist Lee Seong-mi. When Lee asked if she brought anything today, Bae jokingly replied, "Oh, you're so cheeky. As I get older, I find it bothersome. I don't want to do anything." However, she admitted that aging has indeed affected her energy levels. Her husband noted, "These days, she gets upset easily and often raises her voice." At 74, Bae shared, "Menopause has stages. The first stage hit in my 50s, and now in my mid-70s, I'm experiencing the second stage."
However, after the pancreatic surgery, her diabetes worsened. Bae confessed, "After the surgery, I developed diabetes and had to inject insulin into my stomach several times a day. It's been 26 years now." She added, "I developed an obsession with staying healthy to prevent further deterioration and complications."
Her husband, Kim Do-man, is also battling diabetes. He expressed, "My health concern is wanting to live a long life with my wife. But the truth is, I'm also a diabetic. I wish to live happily and healthily with her for a long time." When MC Hyun-young complimented their strong bond, Bae Yeon-jung laughed, "We didn't get along at first, but after getting sick, our relationship improved."
