Director Ryoo Seung-wan Discusses Potential Collaboration with Brother Ryoo Seung-bum
On the 20th, at a café in Anguk-dong, Seoul, director Ryoo Seung-wan was interviewed about his latest film, 'Humint'.
'Humint' is set in Vladivostok, where secrets and truths are submerged in the icy sea, and individuals with different motives clash. Known for his action-packed films, Director Ryoo once again delivers intense action sequences while intricately portraying the emotional arcs of the characters.
When asked about the possibility of collaborating with his brother Ryoo Seung-bum, the director smiled and said, "I've been talking about it with Seung-bum lately. He took a break from acting for a while, and even though I suggested working together, he wasn't interested at the time."
He also shared insights into his brother's life in Slovakia. "When I visited his home in Slovakia, he was living a minimalist lifestyle, but he seemed very happy," said the director. "He spends his mornings sweeping the yard and streets and taking walks with his daughter. He doesn't want to disrupt that happiness. When he acts, he focuses solely on the moment, and the rest of the time, he's with his family."
Despite this, Director Ryoo expressed his desire to work with 'actor Ryoo Seung-bum'. "I would love to have him in front of my camera. Seung-bum also mentioned, 'Hyung, I think it's about time I start acting again.'"
Regarding the possibility of Ryoo Seung-bum joining the upcoming 'Veteran 3', Director Ryoo dismissed the idea. "'Veteran 3' is not an option. He doesn't like physically demanding roles," he laughed. "I asked him why he flies around in other projects like 'Moving', and he said, 'That's a comic book.'" He added, "He has high standards for me."
Director Ryoo also provided updates on 'Veteran 3'. "We're currently working on the script. Initially, I planned to start right after this project, but I don't have the stamina I used to," he admitted. Actor Hwang Jung-min, who stars in the film, is also wrapping up another project, so scheduling needs to be coordinated.
"While 'Veteran 2' was a personal project to address my feelings about the first film, 'Veteran 3' aims to return to the tone and style that audiences enjoyed," Director Ryoo hinted.
