Kang Dong-won Takes on a Bold New Role in 'Wild Thing' as Dance Group Leader

Actor Kang Dong-won is set to showcase a new side of himself in the film 'Wild Thing' directed by Son Jae-gon, taking on the role of Hyun-woo, the leader and dance machine of the mixed-gender dance group 'Triangle', marking a significant transformation in his 23-year career.

Recently, Kang Dong-won garnered attention through the music video for 'Triangle's 'Love is', and now he is challenging himself with his most daring role yet in 'Wild Thing'. The film is a comedy about 'Triangle', a once-popular three-member dance group that disbanded overnight due to an unexpected incident, and their reckless attempt to seize a comeback opportunity 20 years later.

Kang Dong-won, known for his versatile performances in films like 'Jeon, Ran', 'The Secret of the Snowy Field', 'Broker', and 'Peninsula', returns as Hyun-woo in 'Wild Thing'. Hyun-woo, a self-proclaimed D.M 'dance machine' known for his windmill and headspin moves, rose to fame with 'Triangle', clinching the top spot on music programs within a year of debut. However, after the group's disbandment, he now struggles with low recognition, drifting through the broadcasting world as a 'livelihood machine'. Kang Dong-won is set to portray the character's journey between his glorious past and challenging present, promising another iconic role that surpasses his previous performances in 'A Violent Prosecutor' and 'Jeon Woo-chi'.

In the stills, Kang Dong-won is seen on stage in a red jacket, performing with an intense gaze and outstretched fingers. His dyed bob hairstyle and charismatic expression are captivating. Another still shows him in a leopard print tracksuit striking a playful pose, highlighting the character's cheerful charm through his free-spirited styling and mischievous expression.

To match the 'dance machine' Hyun-woo, Kang Dong-won underwent five months of rigorous choreography training. Choreographer Yang Wook, responsible for the film's performances, stated, "Despite the extensive choreography required, from b-boying to hip-hop and 'Triangle's routines, Kang Dong-won added realism through meticulous training over a long period. He executed complex moves like the headspin with stability, impressing all the staff." Director Son Jae-gon expressed his affection for the actor, saying, "Every director has probably envisioned a project with Kang Dong-won as the lead at least once." He also praised Kang's keen eye for the overall film, noting his active contribution to the music, choreography, and style, enhancing the film's quality.

Kang Dong-won's performance in 'Wild Thing' can be seen on June 3.
