‘Suzume’s Lockdown’ breaks box office record in Korea
The movie ‘Suzume’s Lockdown’ (directed by Makoto Shinkai) ranked first in the weekend box office for four consecutive weeks.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network, 'Suzume's Lockdown' mobilized 581,391 viewers over the weekend of the 31st to April 2nd. The cumulative number of viewers was 3,784,744. If the trend continues, it is expected to easily exceed 4 million.

In addition, it is expected to break its own box office record in Korea, surpassing 'Your Name' (3.8 million viewers), which was the highest-grossing film among director Makoto Shinkai's films released domestically.

'Suzume's Lockdown' tells the story of Suzume, a girl who accidentally opens a door that causes disaster, and desperately tries to close it to prevent disasters occurring throughout Japan. The movie takes as its main subject the Great East Japan Earthquake, which had a magnitude of 9.0, the largest ever observed in Japan. ‘Suzume’s Lockdown’ is a movie that attracted 10 million viewers in Japan and is also a box office hit in Korea.

'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor of Thieves' (directed by Jonathan Goldstein) ranked second in the weekend box office with 120,170 people, and 'The First Slam Dunk' (directed by Takehiko Inoue) ranked third with 62,203 people. The cumulative number of viewers reached 4.38 million. ‘Woongnam’ (director Park Seong-gwang) ranked 4th, and ‘Soulmate’ ranked 5th.
