Conditions for a good movie revealed by Netflix CEO who 'worked at a video rental store'
Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, explained what he thinks are good movies and stories.

At 1:30 pm on the 21st, the 'Netflix & Park Chan-wook with Future Filmmaker' event was broadcast live online. Director Park Chan-wook, co-CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, and students dreaming of future filmmakers participated in the event, hosted by film critic Lee Dong-jin.

CEO Ted Sarandos mentioned the process of discovering good movies and stories. He said, “I learned about good movies while working at a video rental store. Netflix also started out as a mail service. It was sent through mailing to a small city, so many people could see it. The medium of video connects people. Netflix also collaborates with master directors, but we also want to give new directors a chance to work together,” he revealed the vision of Netflix.

“When watching a movie, people seem to see two things. The first is an emotional connection, and the second is an escape route. I think it's a good movie to do one of those things where you can empathize with people or escape to another place for two hours. The newer and more truthful, the better the movie seems to be. It was the point of entry into Korean films while watching the commentary of 'The Host' (director Bong Joon-ho). I think good films are the entryway for a long journey,” he explained.

Also, director Park Chan-wook said about the power to make a good movie, “The power to make a good movie seems to come from the narrow scope of oneself, the narrowness and narrowness of the ego. I think it's a good movie if it shows and connects different types of people and the world realistically. When you watch a movie like that, you expand yourself. Among the works produced by Netflix, 'Roma' is my favorite. I feel like I'm in it," he added.

In this event, university students dreaming of becoming filmmakers participated and talked about the future of Korean films and the issues of change in theater districts.
