Former 'Produce 101' Contestant Sung Hyun-woo Reveals Assault While Preventing Drunk Driving
Recently, a video titled 'Story of Being Assaulted While Preventing Drunk Driving' was uploaded to Sung Hyun-woo's YouTube channel.
In the video, Sung Hyun-woo recalls, "I was 20 years old at the time, having left the company where I was a trainee and entering university. I had an older friend whom I considered like a brother. We met up and drank together, both of us having a lot on our minds. I needed to find a company to restart my trainee life, and he had his own concerns. We ended up drinking until the morning sun rose."
He continued, "When we went to get a taxi home, he insisted on driving his car, saying he would call a designated driver and told me to go ahead. I was worried because we drank so much, so I accompanied him to his car. He seemed like he was going to drive, so I insisted on waiting until the designated driver arrived. We argued a bit, but he eventually called for a driver."
While waiting for the driver, Sung Hyun-woo shared, "We were chatting and laughing when suddenly he punched me in the face. He hit my nose and then my ear. I was in shock, and blood started dripping. It was painful, but I felt betrayed. I thought, 'I tried to prevent a potential accident, and now I'm being hit?' I was so angry that I reported the assault to the police."
Sung Hyun-woo added, "When the police arrived, they saw the blood and told me to go to the hospital immediately. But I was more consumed by anger and insisted on going to the police station to file a report. At the station, I said I had no intention of settling. However, I eventually went to the hospital, where the doctor said I needed to be hospitalized for over a week."
After receiving a sincere apology via text from his friend, Sung Hyun-woo reflected, "If it were me now, I would never forgive him. But I liked him as a brother, so I forgave him. He apologized in front of my family, and we stayed in touch for a while. He took good care of my parents and me, but eventually, he stopped contacting us."
Sung Hyun-woo gained recognition after appearing on Mnet's 'Produce 101' Season 2 in 2017. He later debuted in 2019 as A.M in the boy group Limitless.
