Koo Kyo-hwan: A Versatile Talent Shaping His Own Genre in Film and Television
In the JTBC weekend drama 'Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness' (directed by Cha Young-hoon, written by Park Hae-young, produced by Studio Phoenix, SLL, and Studio Flow, hereafter 'EFOW'), Koo takes on the role of 'Hwang Dong-man,' a character who has been dreaming of debuting as a film director for 20 years. Koo is crafting a diverse filmography.
Koo Kyo-hwan is not only acting but also showcasing his artistic talents through directing various projects. He has intrigued audiences with his performances in films like 'Jane's Dream,' 'Peninsula,' 'Escape from Mogadishu,' 'Runaway,' and dramas such as 'D.P.,' 'Monstrous,' and 'Parasyte: The Grey,' consistently revealing new facets of his talent.
Currently, Koo is delivering a compelling performance in 'EFOW,' conveying the universal feeling of 'anxiety' and offering empathy and comfort to viewers. He skillfully portrays the duality of his character, balancing bravado with underlying vulnerability, and brings Park Hae-young's impactful script to life with his unique energy. Viewers are eagerly anticipating his continued performance in the series.
Koo's transformation as an actor doesn't stop there. He is set to energize theaters with his role as 'Seo Young-chul,' a biologist who triggers an infection outbreak, in the upcoming film 'Colony,' releasing on May 21. As a character central to the plot and yearning for the birth of a new humanity, Koo promises to deliver a unique villain with a strong presence, heightening audience anticipation. 'Colony' has also been officially invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, further raising expectations.
Additionally, Koo is directing the trailer for the 22nd Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival, starring Kim Tae-ri and Son Seok-koo. The festival will run from June 18 to 23. Koo continues to shine not only as an actor but also as a director.
