Actor Koo Sung-hwan recently captured attention with his noticeably slimmer appearance after losing 12kg during a cross-country journey following the loss of his beloved dog, Kkotbuni.
On the 4th, a photoshoot featuring Koo Sung-hwan was released, showcasing him in a cinematic atmosphere reminiscent of a movie poster.
During the shoot, Koo expressed, "Unlike acting, where you can move, expressing everything while staying still is challenging but enjoyable," accompanied by his warm smile.
Describing himself with the word 'romantic,' he added, "I believe it's important to enjoy each day to the fullest." The early loss of his mother taught him the value of 'today' and instilled in him a new philosophy and approach to life.
Koo previously shared, "My mother passed away from terminal stomach cancer when I was in second grade. It was a shock to face such an early farewell, and she spent four years in the hospital. Seeing her always with tubes, I wondered why she was in the hospital while others were enjoying life. Even at a young age, I realized that people could disappear tomorrow. Watching my mother was a profound shock."
This perspective carries over to his acting. To immerse himself in a role, Koo focuses on understanding the overall flow and relaxing himself. "Instead of memorizing and analyzing lines, I look at the bigger picture. I believe the chemistry between actors is crucial, so I aim for ensemble harmony. If the body is tense, expression doesn't come naturally, so I consider 'comfort' as fundamental," he explained, showcasing his seasoned experience.
Despite the intense attention from his recent appearance on the variety show 'I Live Alone,' Koo strives to maintain his focus as an actor. "I want to clearly distinguish between variety shows and acting. If I'm seen too much as a variety show personality, it might inconvenience my colleagues in our projects," he stated.
His passion for acting extends to new characters. Having learned that minimizing expressions can intensify a portrayal, he expressed a desire to tackle Janus-like characters or roles with multiple twists, driven by dialogue and gaze.
A memorable encouragement from actor Song Kang-ho, "I knew you would become a great actor," remains with him. Recalling their connection from 'Uncle Samsik,' Koo looks forward to working together again in the future.
Koo's ultimate goal is not grand achievements but 'living more enjoyably.' He shared, "Happiness isn't as grand as one might think. A delicious dinner after work, a comfortable home to sleep in—these everyday things are happiness. Many ask about happiness, but I hope people don't overthink it and find joy in small things, appreciating the little moments."
