JTBC's new drama 'God's Bead' is set in 1258 during the Goryeo Dynasty, amidst a prolonged war with Mongolia. The story follows a heroic convoy on a quest to find the sacred relic, Guan Yin Bead, and the tale of a princess determined to save them.
Directed by Jung Dae-yoon, known for his work on 'Reborn Rich', 'W', and 'She Was Pretty', and written by Jung Hyun-min, the mastermind behind hits like 'Jeong Do-jeon', 'The Nokdu Flower', and 'Assembly', 'God's Bead' promises to be a masterpiece. The drama features a stellar cast including Ahn Bo-hyun, Lee Sung-min, Soo-hyun, Ha Yoon-kyung, and Yoon Kyun-sang.
The character stills released today (14th) encapsulate the narratives of the five main characters, each with their own beliefs and stories.
Ahn Bo-hyun plays Baek Gyeol, the special commander of the convoy tasked with finding the sacred relic, akin to a Goryeo version of the 'Holy Grail'. Despite being a former royal guard, Baek Gyeol is sent on this perilous mission due to his love for the emperor's daughter. The stills reveal Baek Gyeol's complex character, showcasing a mix of sternness and hidden passion.
Lee Sung-min portrays Choi Gu, the seasoned leader of the elite Goryeo unit, Yabyeolcho. Choi Gu, a veteran of countless battles, is chosen to lead the convoy alongside the young commander Baek Gyeol. His face bears the scars of past glories, and his eyes reflect the weight of survival, promising a compelling performance.
Soo-hyun takes on the role of Princess Wang Hee, the emperor's youngest daughter. Her stills exude a provocative aura, capturing attention instantly. Having closed her heart after a strategic marriage and loss, Wang Hee's encounter with Baek Gyeol stirs her emotions. Her cold gaze amidst her vibrant presence hints at her resilient inner strength.
Ha Yoon-kyung transforms into Geol-seung, a tavern owner and guide for the convoy. Joining the mission at Baek Gyeol's request, Geol-seung's carefree charm and survival instincts add vitality to the story. Her character is expected to bring an optimistic energy to the drama.
Yoon Kyun-sang plays Wang Mu, the protector of Wonju Fortress and Wang Hee's first love. His character, clad in armor and exuding a strong presence, is a distant royal relative exiled due to political intrigue. With a past tied to Wang Hee, he faces the whirlwind of fate once more.
'God's Bead' introduces a grand narrative through its first stills, highlighting characters with diverse beliefs and destinies. The drama's overwhelming scale and emotional depth are anticipated to resonate with audiences this fall.
Meanwhile, 'God's Bead' is set to premiere at the 9th Cannes International Series Festival in the non-competitive Rendez-vous section on the 23rd. Ahn Bo-hyun and Soo-hyun will represent the drama, engaging with global audiences through events like the pink carpet and GV.
JTBC's 'God's Bead' is slated for its first broadcast this fall. It will be available for streaming on Coupang Play and Amazon Prime Video for international viewers.
