On the 13th, MOM Entertainment announced, "Kim Na-hee has confirmed her appearance in the original musical 'Oji-ge Fun Gashina-deul'. She will play the role of 'Chun-shim', a student at Chilgok Literacy School, portraying a passionate challenge towards her dreams."
The musical 'Oji-ge Fun Gashina-deul' is based on the popular documentary film 'Chilgok Gashina-deul' and the essay 'Oji-ge Fun Aging'. It is inspired by the true stories of grandmothers in Chilgok who learned to read and write in their eighties, rediscovering the excitement of life.
Notably, over 20 poems written by the actual literacy school grandmothers have been transformed into musical numbers, offering a genuine resonance. The production was recognized for its artistic value, winning three awards including Best Production, Best Script, and Best Direction at the 10th Korea Musical Awards, heightening audience anticipation for this revival.
Kim Na-hee's character 'Chun-shim' once dreamed of becoming a singer but couldn't even fill out a singing contest application due to illiteracy. With her outstanding vocal skills and unique, vibrant charm, Kim Na-hee is expected to portray Chun-shim's journey of learning to read and stepping into the world, delivering both laughter and tears to the audience.
Through her agency, Kim Na-hee expressed, "I was deeply moved and comforted by the story that inspired this work, and I am honored and excited to bring this warm story to the stage. I will sincerely portray Chun-shim's story of opening her eyes to a new world, so please look forward to it."
Meanwhile, the original musical 'Oji-ge Fun Gashina-deul', featuring Kim Na-hee, will be performed at the National Theater of Korea's Haneul Theater in Seoul from May 15 to June 28.
