Kim Young-hee, who married former baseball player Yoon Seung-yeol in 2021, has revealed some challenges of being married to a 'devoted son.'
On the September 9th episode of KBS2's 'Malja Show,' a special holiday edition aired, featuring a segment titled "I married him because he's a devoted son, but it's tough because he's a devoted son."
'Malja Grandma' Kim Young-hee shared, "There are certain traits in a partner that you suddenly find appealing, but later they can become a source of stress," describing it as the 'rose-colored glasses' coming off. She admitted that her husband's 'devoted son' moments were what led her to marry him, but they sometimes cause friction.
Kim recounted an episode where her husband saved the money given by his mother for household expenses to return it to her, which left Kim feeling a bit disappointed. "I realized that a devoted son can sometimes prioritize his family over his spouse," she confessed. As the female audience members listened intently, Kim jokingly said, "Sorry, but mothers-in-law should leave," to lighten the mood.
The audience also shared their stories of having 'devoted son' husbands. One attendee recounted, "I gave birth to our first child abroad, and my husband brought his mother over to witness the birth. Since she was already there, we thought of taking her sightseeing, but my husband doesn't have a driver's license. So, three weeks after giving birth, I drove my mother-in-law to the beach," capturing the audience's attention.
Guest Jo Hye-ryun also shared her family story, mentioning her younger brother, the youngest of eight siblings, as the apple of their mother's eye. She recounted a trip to Laos with her mother, where her mother remarked, "It would have been wonderful to be here with my son," which hurt Jo's feelings. She later understood that her mother's life revolved around her son.
