Interview with director Jang Hang-jun of the movie ‘Rebound’
Director Jang Hang-jun, who directed the movie 'Rebound', mentioned writer Kim Eun-hee.
On the morning of the 31st, director Jang Hang-jun told various stories related to the upcoming movie 'Rebound' at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
'Rebound' is a miraculous story of 8 days during the 2012 National High School Basketball Tournament, when a new coach and 6 players of the weakest basketball team that no one paid attention to ran tirelessly. It is based on the true story of Busan Jungang High School's success in the 2012 Korea Basketball Association Long National Middle and High School Basketball Tournament.
Director Jang Hang-jun, who was in charge of directing, returned to the screen six years after the movie 'A Night of Remembrance'. Through 'Rebound', he conveys a message of empathy and hope by depicting the brilliant growth story of a youth who falls and gets back up again with passion and spirit for loving basketball, with laughter and warm humanity.
On this day, director Jang Hang-jun mentioned his writer and wife, Kim Eun-hee. Director Jang Hang-jun and writer Kim Eun-hee said that they have not fought in 10 years, except when they appeared on 'Infinite Challenge'. He said, "I'm still talking about my next project (with writer Kim Eun-hee). We talked seriously a while ago. Kim Eun-hee gave me a lot of mental help. She said, 'You must do this movie.' Of course I was planning to do it. “He said.
“I also said to my daughter, Yoon-seo, ‘Isn’t that true?’ Yoon-seo said, ‘Oh, even if dad doesn’t do it, I hope someone else does it.’ So I said to my daughter, ‘Dad, I think so too.’ After seeing the edited version, writer Kim Eun-hee said, “He said, ‘This will be your representative work.’ It was an edited version without music,” he added.
Director Jang Hang-jun said, "We auditioned 500 basketball players for 'Rebound', and while production was halted, they aged a lot over time. Director Kang Yang-hyeon personally came and auditioned with Chosun University coaches. Since we prepared it once, we quickly created tension in a short period of time. This came up. The most important thing at that time was who would play the role of Coach Kang. CEO Jang Won-seok and CEO Kim Young-hoon asked, and I said, 'I want Ahn Jae-hong to play it.' Because I like Ahn Jae-hong's work and I like the characters he played. “It seemed like there was a chubby person living next door to us,” he said.
Also, "Personally, I thought Ahn Jae-hong had a unique taste and charm. I asked Ahn Jae-hong to give me a scenario, so I gave it to him. I got a call from Ahn Jae-hong three days later. He said he would do it unconditionally. We met for a drink and said, 'You Quiz on the Block.' '. He said he had a feeling that he would be contacted at some point. So I said, 'I'm glad you did it.' Ahn Jae-hong was at a time when he was 'in the mood for melodrama,' so I guess he wanted to try something handsome," he said, laughing. I gave it to you.
Director Jang Hang-jun said, "At that time, Ahn Jae-hong had lost a lot of weight. We didn't even promise each other, but we were right and said, 'Shouldn't we put on weight?' He showed up after gaining weight in a week. He said he had gained 10 kg. When I asked him how he gained weight, he said it was easy. He said. I met Jaehong Ahn and coach Yanghyun Kang. Coach Yanghyun Kang didn't know much about movies, but he said he felt good about it. He said, 'You can kill me in this movie.' So Jaehong said, 'It's not that kind of movie.' The three of us became close friends. “He laughed.
Director Jang Hong-jun said, "He was the same as me in terms of looking at the work and interpreting the characters. When I came up with an idea, Jae-hong Ahn liked it. Jae-hong also changed the scenario and situation as needed. Comedy for the sake of comedy is not in this movie. I thought it was right. I thought a comedy with a natural character would be right. Jaehong has a lot of quirks. Among the things that were edited, there were a lot of things that Ahn Jaehong found funny. A lot of them were edited out due to time constraints," he said, expressing his regret.
Not only that, "Even if you look at Jeong Bong-i from 'Reply 1988', there are chubby boys wearing tracksuits around us, so who can do that? Who in the world can do 'Melo's Constitution' and 'King of Jokgu?' Even if Song Kang-ho can't do it," he said. Do you think Lee Sung-min or Sol Kyeong-gu would do it? There are details that only Ahn Jae-hong can provide. He has his own details and character building. I think Ahn Jae-hong is a great weapon that will enable him to survive until now and in the future. I don't think there is a single person similar to him. I think Ahn Jae-hong's attitude toward his work and humility fit well. I like people who are quiet and silent. I don't say anything. No one listens to what I say, so I have to be silent. It's uncomfortable to talk to Yoon Jong-shin. The person who speaks. “I have it, but no one is listening,” he said, causing laughter.
Meanwhile, 'Rebound', directed by director Jang Hang-jun, will be released on April 5.
