Top Korean Chefs Go Undercover in Foreign Kitchens on tvN's 'Undercover Chef'
tvN's 'Undercover Chef' (directed by Hong Jin-joo) is a unique variety show where Korea's leading star chefs go undercover as the lowest-ranking kitchen staff in restaurants of the countries that inspired their culinary roots. The show challenges these top chefs to leave their ranks behind and tackle hidden missions. The latest teaser video reveals chefs Sam Kim, Jung Ji-sun, and Kwon Sung-joon as they infiltrate local kitchens.
The most intriguing transformation is that of Kwon Sung-joon, the winner of 'Black and White Chef' Season 1 and known as the 'Napoli Mafia.' In a pre-interview, he confidently states, "The kitchen is all about meritocracy, so I wonder if it will take five days to conquer it. Maybe just three days will do," showcasing his trademark confidence.
However, reality proves to be challenging. Kwon finds himself as a rookie in a Naples restaurant, a place he considers his 'culinary hometown,' navigating the dynamics of senior chefs. The show uses a first-person point of view (POV) to vividly convey the bustling kitchen environment, making viewers feel as if they are experiencing it firsthand.
The production team of 'Undercover Chef' stated, "The show will capture the bewilderment of top chefs facing the lowest-level tasks and their struggle to be recognized solely for their skills. Viewers will find themselves immersed, imagining 'What if I were in that situation?' and experiencing a dopamine rush of excitement. Look forward to their spectacular survival stories in unfamiliar environments."
tvN's 'Undercover Chef' premieres on the 21st at 8:40 PM.
