Discover the Iron-Willed Boatwoman of Ninh Binh on Channel A's 'Steel Earth'
Ninh Binh, Vietnam, is a land of magical rivers and towering limestone mountains. This karst landscape, shaped over millions of years, is home to a remarkable female boatwoman who rows with her iron-like legs. Steel Explorers Kang Min-ho and Hwang Chung-won set out to meet this 'Iron Lady' who guards the waterways of Ninh Binh.
Their first destination is 'Tam Coc,' a famous spot in Ninh Binh meaning 'three caves.' As they sail through the karst canyons, the scenery unfolds like a traditional Asian painting. They soon spot boatwomen rowing with their feet, unable to look away. Among them is Ms. Le Hang, a veteran boatwoman with 50 years of experience, who has been rowing since she was 18. She skillfully rows with her feet as if she and the boat are one. Inspired, the Steel Explorers attempt 'foot rowing,' but find it much harder than expected. This ignites a competitive spirit in Kang Min-ho and Hwang Chung-won, leading to a 'two-foot rowing' showdown. The suspense builds as viewers wonder how these novice rowers will fare.
The explorers then visit Ms. Le Hang's home in the boatwomen's village. Her house, located by the river, doubles as a café frequented by boatwomen. It was purchased with the life savings Ms. Le Hang earned over 50 years as a boatwoman, after her daughter, a university graduate with a stable job, unexpectedly returned home. The daughter's emotional response to family stories leaves a lasting impression on the Steel Explorers. The tale of Ms. Le Hang, who spent her life on Ninh Binh's waterways, and her daughter, who left a stable career to return home, captivates the audience.
Channel A's 'Steel Earth' shares the miraculous stories of people living extraordinary lives on our solid planet, airing every Saturday at 7:10 PM.
