Sung Joon to Make Special Appearance in MBC's New Drama '21st Century Grand Duchess'
'21st Century Grand Duchess' is a drama set in a constitutional monarchy in 21st century South Korea. It tells the story of a woman who has everything as a chaebol but is frustrated by her status as a mere commoner, and a man who is the son of a king but is saddened by his inability to possess anything. Together, they embark on a journey to defy their fates and break free from their social statuses.
Sung Joon will portray 'Lee Hwan', the husband of Yoon Yi-rang (played by Gong Seung-yeon) and the brother of Grand Prince Ian (played by Byun Woo-seok). Lee Hwan is a character who, despite being sensitive and fond of leisure, ascends to the throne due to the principle of primogeniture, even though he was not considered king material.
Sung Joon has showcased a wide range of characters in various projects. In SBS's 'The Fiery Priest 2', he played Kim Hong-sik, the head of a drug cartel, displaying a paradoxical charm that made him a villain audiences couldn't help but love. In the Netflix series 'Is This Love Interpretable?', he made a special appearance as Na Jin-seok, the brother of Joo Ho-jin (played by Kim Seon-ho), effortlessly portraying a free-spirited character that added to the show's entertainment.
With his unique presence in every project, anticipation is high for how Sung Joon will captivate viewers in '21st Century Grand Duchess'.
