Reality Star Hyun-sook Faces Dilemma Over Daughter's Surname Ahead of Remarriage

Hyun-sook from 'I Am Solo' Season 22 is contemplating a surname change for her daughter as she prepares for remarriage.

On the October 3rd episode of Channel A's 'Parenting These Days - My Golden Kids,' Hyun-sook sought legal advice regarding her 5-year-old daughter's surname. She expressed her desire to change her daughter's surname from her ex-husband's, B, to her own, D, stating her strong dislike for the current surname.

The lawyer highlighted the practical challenges of changing a surname. "The decision is made by a judge who assesses the validity, but remarriage complicates the matter," the lawyer explained, noting that there are broader considerations at play.

The lawyer further explained, "If you adopt the child as a stepchild after remarriage, it's customary to change the surname to the father's." He advised that the child's surname might change multiple times and suggested waiting until the situation stabilizes post-remarriage to consider adopting the father's surname.

Dr. Oh Eun-young also commented on the complexity of explaining the father's role to the daughter, emphasizing the importance of understanding the concept of a 'biological father.'

Currently dating Kwang-soo from Season 16 with marriage in mind, Hyun-sook shared her struggles in forming a blended family. She expressed uncertainty about how to truthfully explain the situation to her daughter, who was not born from their union.

In a surprising moment during the show, Hyun-sook's daughter called a male crew member "dad" and hugged him, highlighting potential emotional gaps. Dr. Oh pointed out that this could be a sign of 'disinhibited attachment' and stressed the need for Hyun-sook and her partner to prepare realistically for their upcoming remarriage.
