1 Night 2 Days: A Nostalgic Trip to Cheongdo with a Twist on 'Spring Cabbage Bibimbap'

The cast of '1 Night 2 Days' recreated the iconic 'Kang Ho-dong's Spring Cabbage Bibimbap' scene during their trip to Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk, after 18 years.

On the episode aired on the 22nd, KBS2's variety show '1 Night 2 Days Season 4' (hereafter '1 Night 2 Days') showcased the second part of the 'Time Capsule Race' featuring five members in Cheongdo County, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The show achieved a nationwide rating of 7.0% according to Nielsen Korea, ranking first in its time slot. A scene where Kim Jong-min and Lee Jun enjoyed a meal made with freshly harvested water parsley during their early morning labor reached a peak rating of 11.1%.

In the final results of the 'Time Capsule Race,' the Se-yoon team (Moon Se-yoon, DinDin, Yoo Seon-ho) secured 30 time capsules, while the Jong-min team (Kim Jong-min, Lee Jun) obtained 10. Despite hoping for a lucky turn of events, the Se-yoon team emerged as the ultimate winners, having completed more missions. Consequently, Kim Jong-min and Lee Jun faced the penalty of early morning labor the next day.

After the race, the '1 Night 2 Days' team moved to the base camp and engaged in a 'predictive foot volleyball' match against the staff team as a dinner gamble. To win dinner, the members not only had to win the match but also achieve the score they predicted beforehand. A victory with scores of 10-0 or 10-9 would allow all members to enjoy dinner.

Initially, the '1 Night 2 Days' team fell behind 0-3 against the staff team. The five members, flustered, called a timeout to regroup and launched a fierce comeback, overturning the score.

As they neared the winning score of 10 points, the members began a strategic battle to end the match with their predicted scores. They intentionally made mistakes, openly manipulating the score, allowing the staff team to catch up, resulting in a 9-9 tie.

The only remaining option for the five members was to win 10-9. Both teams cautiously continued the rally for the final point, and with the staff team's last attack going out, the '1 Night 2 Days' team clinched a dramatic 10-9 victory, securing dinner for all members.

Recreating 'Spring Cabbage Bibimbap' After 18 Years: What's Different?

Entering the dinner venue triumphantly, the five members savored a lavish spread of Cheongdo Han-jae water parsley, celebrating their victory. Notably, they recreated the viral 'Kang Ho-dong's Spring Cabbage Bibimbap' eating scene from '1 Night 2 Days' Season 1, 18 years later.

Moon Se-yoon humorously mimicked Kang Ho-dong's famous lines, saying, "Wow! The cabbage is tastier than meat~" and "Is this really that delicious~" The members praised the seasonal spring cabbage bibimbap, completing the 2026 version of the 'Spring Cabbage Bibimbap Eating Show.'

The five members also enjoyed iced persimmon dessert prepared by the production team, concluding a satisfying dinner. Kim Jong-min, who chose a dessert bowl with a four-leaf clover, secured indoor sleeping arrangements regardless of the sleeping game results.

The 'Indoor Sleeping Path' mission determined two additional indoor sleepers. While Kim Jong-min called out 'The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed,' the first two members to complete all five courses avoided outdoor sleeping.

Lee Jun, who led from the start, was the first to complete the five courses, securing indoor sleeping. DinDin and Yoo Seon-ho fiercely competed for the remaining spot, while Moon Se-yoon struggled to pass the third and fourth courses, seemingly out of the race.

However, Moon Se-yoon, who had been sleeping outdoors for the past three months, was determined not to give up. He caught up with DinDin and Yoo Seon-ho, who were stuck in a stalemate, and in a dramatic turn, overtook them, becoming the final winner of the sleeping game.

After a hectic day, everyone went to bed, while Kim Jong-min and Lee Jun, who lost the 'Time Capsule Race,' woke up at 6 AM to fulfill their early morning labor penalty. They helped harvest 30kg of water parsley at a farm, successfully completing their task in an hour, marking the end of their eventful Cheongdo trip.

During this trip, the '1 Night 2 Days' team evoked nostalgia by perfectly embodying the fashion and key features of the 1990s, showcasing their strong teamwork in overcoming challenges.

Meanwhile, on the 17th, the YouTube channel 'Channel Fifteenya' released a video titled 'Behind-the-Scenes Talk of 1 Night 2 Days While Eating Spring Cabbage Bibimbap.'

In the video, PD Na Young-seok revealed that the spring cabbage bibimbap Kang Ho-dong ate on '1 Night 2 Days' was actually made with napa cabbage. He explained, "The grandmother kept calling it 'spring cabbage,' so we believed her and aired it. Later, when I tried it myself, the taste was different, and upon checking, it was napa cabbage." Viewers expressed surprise, realizing that the actual ingredient of the 'Spring Cabbage Bibimbap' craze was different from what they believed.
