Heartfelt Farewell: 'Shining' Episode 3-4 Highlights the Struggles of Young Love
On the October 13th episode of JTBC's Friday drama 'Shining' (directed by Kim Yoon-jin, written by Lee Sook-yeon), episodes 3 and 4 depicted Mo Eun-ah (played by Kim Min-ju) saying goodbye to Yeon Tae-seo (played by Park Jin-young) as she embarks on her journey of independence by moving into a dormitory.
In this episode, Mo Eun-ah begins to realize her vague dream of independence by securing a spot in the dormitory as an intern. Upon hearing this, Yeon Tae-seo offers heartfelt support, becoming a strong pillar for her. Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship, the couple shares a tender kiss at the bus terminal and holds hands through a window, affirming their destined connection.
However, the reality surrounding them is far from easy. Yeon Tae-seo learns from his grandfather, Yeon Chang-sik (played by Kang Shin-il), that his grandmother urgently needs knee surgery. Yet, his scholarship status becomes uncertain, leaving him torn between academics and livelihood. Faced with the dilemma of immediate employment and military enlistment, Yeon Tae-seo finds it increasingly difficult to coordinate meeting times with Mo Eun-ah.
Ultimately, as Mo Eun-ah settles into her new home and resolves to start anew, she declines Yeon Tae-seo's offer to visit, marking the end of their relationship. She calls him, saying, "Don't come," suggesting they focus on their individual aspirations instead of wasting time forcing their connection. Her candid confession leaves Yeon Tae-seo swallowing his sadness as he replies, "Alright," evoking sympathy from viewers.
