Korean Baseball Legend Yang Joon-hyuk's Wife Opens Up About Marriage Challenges and Family Opposition
On the October 8th episode of KBS2's variety show 'The Boss Has Donkey Ears,' the housewarming of Yang Joon-hyuk and his wife, who run a fish restaurant in Pohang, was featured.
The episode also revealed the behind-the-scenes story of the couple's marriage, highlighting the 19-year age gap between Yang and Park.
Park Hyun-sun addressed the public perception at the time of their marriage, saying, "Many people around me questioned if I married him for his wealth, even suggesting I was a gold digger."
Their marriage was also a difficult decision for both families. Notably, Park's father was only nine years older than Yang.
Park recalled, "It wasn't easy to bring up the topic of marriage to my parents, so I mustered the courage to tell them via text."
She shared, "My father called and asked, 'Do you want to marry someone like your dad?' expressing his concerns about the age difference." Her father, reflecting on Yang's birth year of 1969, admitted, "It seemed like a big gap between the '60s and '70s, and I often thought, 'If only he were born in the '70s.'"
Park's mother added, "Her father cried every morning," evoking sympathy. As they reminisced, her father wiped away tears, and Park also shed tears, remembering the emotional turmoil.
However, over time, the situation changed. Yang Joon-hyuk expressed gratitude, saying, "Now, my father-in-law is my biggest support in business, and the whole family is very supportive."
Her father also expressed pride, saying, "I'm proud of my son-in-law. Seeing them live well, I sometimes think I should have just pretended to oppose."
The episode also touched on the couple's journey through pregnancy and childbirth. Park revealed, "We lost one of our twins," and Yang became emotional recalling that time.
