Former IZ*ONE Star Kim Min-ju Discusses Pressure of First Lead Role in JTBC's 'Shining'
On the 5th, a press conference for JTBC's new Friday series 'Shining' was held at The Link Hotel Seoul in Guro-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by director Kim Yoon-jin and actors Park Jin-young and Kim Min-ju.
'Shining' is a drama that captures the journey of young individuals who, while sharing a world of their own, become the light that reflects each other's beliefs and life directions.
Kim Min-ju plays Mo Eun-ah, the first love of Yeon Tae-seo. Her character is a passionate and deep-minded former hotelier who now manages a traditional Seoul guesthouse. Born in 2001, Kim Min-ju expressed her concerns about portraying a character in her 30s, a decade she has yet to experience. She shared, "I had many discussions with the director and also asked friends for advice. I realized there are limits to what can be shown externally. I focused on how the events and situations this character has faced might have shaped her attitudes and values."
She added, "Jin-young oppa was also a great help. He always made the set comfortable and we discussed the script a lot," expressing her gratitude. In response, Jin-young said, "It was a set where I couldn't always act like an adult, so thank you for saying that."
When asked about the pressure of her first lead role, Kim Min-ju admitted, "I felt a lot of pressure and worry. However, it was such a great project that I participated with gratitude. Despite it being my first lead role, I was able to rely on the wonderful staff, director, and colleagues to complete it. On set, I received a lot of support to let go of the pressure and act as Eun-ah."
The 10-episode series 'Shining' will premiere on the 6th at 8:50 PM, with the first two episodes airing consecutively.
