Sunye of Wonder Girls Transforms into a Home-Cooked Meal Fairy on 'New Release Pyeonstorang'
On the episode aired on the 27th, KBS 2TV's 'New Release Pyeonstorang' introduced a new chef with great ambition. The star of the show was none other than Sunye, the legendary idol who led the K-POP boom as the leader of the national girl group Wonder Girls, and now a hardworking mom raising three daughters. Through 'Pyeonstorang', Sunye shared her cooking life as a mother of three, her family, and her love for her late grandmother.
Sunye appeared with a slender figure that rivaled current idols, prompting Vitamin MC Hyojung to exclaim, "You look like you're still in your active days, senior!" Sunye, who manages herself perfectly, is also fulfilling her role as a working mom. She proudly stated, "I cook three meals a day for my three kids," and added, "If I hadn't been a singer, I would have opened a restaurant."
What caught attention was Sunye's 'frozen celebrity' side, as she seemed awkward in the observational reality show. She would suddenly greet the camera or awkwardly chat with the 'Pyeonstorang' crew. However, she soon adapted and began sharing her 14 years of homemaking cooking tips, including her homemade seasoning trio that balances taste and health.
Sunye surprised everyone when she announced her marriage during her active years with Wonder Girls, both domestically and internationally, at the age of 24. She reminisced, "After getting married, I lived in Canada and brought cookbooks with me," sharing her journey of trial and error in perfecting her home-cooked recipes like sweet pork ribs, non-sticky dried squid, and almond anchovy snacks.
When she received news of her aunt and uncle visiting, Sunye prepared a nostalgic grandmother's meal, recalling dishes like radish rice, radish stew, sliced radish kimchi stew, and tofu stew, all from memory and with added personal touches.
Sunye expressed, "My children are a great gift," and added, "After getting married, I understood my grandmother's feelings more." She reflected on the pain her grandmother must have felt losing a child, saying, "Raising my kids in Korea makes me think of her more." The 'Pyeonstorang' crew added a video of her grandmother, bringing Sunye to tears and touching the audience.
Sunye has returned from a national girl group fairy to a home-cooked meal fairy. As a mother of three, she has come to understand her late grandmother's heart more deeply. Viewers are eager to see what genuine stories and dishes she will share on 'Pyeonstorang' and what role she will play as a chef. KBS 2TV's 'New Release Pyeonstorang' airs every Friday at 8:30 PM.
