Koo Soo-kyung Shines on 'Hyun-yeok Ga-wang 3' with Deep Emotional Performance
Koo Soo-kyung, who remained relatively unknown for a decade, captivated the 'Hyun-yeok Ga-wang' stage with her deep emotional resonance.

On the October 10th episode of MBN's 'Hyun-yeok Ga-wang 3', Koo Soo-kyung took to the stage for the second round of the third preliminary match, titled 'Fate War', leaving a lasting impression with her unique song choice.

Having secured the top spot in the first round of the third preliminary match with an overwhelming score, Koo Soo-kyung expressed, “Being in first place brings pressure, but as the competition progresses, I become more ambitious.” Fellow contestant Lyn added to the anticipation, saying, “I’m really looking forward to it. I’m captivated by her.”

Koo Soo-kyung chose Lee Seung-jae's 'A Distant Place', delivering a performance that relied solely on her voice, leaving a profound impact. She began with a low, deep tone, building a somber mood and capturing the song's essence with her restrained vocal delivery, conveying the lyrics' emptiness and longing with precision.

As the performance progressed, her unwavering focus and stable vocal power shone through the crescendoing high notes, enhancing the stage's overall quality. Her ability to convey emotions precisely drew the audience in, with fellow contestants praising her as a “vocal genius” and a “formidable talent.”

Composer Yoon Myung-sun praised her, saying, “Even without singing the first verse powerfully, the immersion was significant. There was a tight tension throughout the performance. Her ability to change the atmosphere with each angle of her face helps the audience interpret the song.”

Judge Jung Soo-ra remarked, “During the preliminary judging, I thought, ‘Where did this gem come from?’ I’ll watch over her until she becomes a polished jewel,” offering words of encouragement. Lee Ji-hye also applauded her, noting, “It’s impressive that she challenged a genre she’s not familiar with.”

Meanwhile, Solji, Kim Tae-yeon, Lee Soo-yeon, Cha Ji-yeon, Koo Soo-kyung, Geum Jan-di, Hong Ja, Hong Ji-yoon, Kang Hye-yeon, Kim Joo-i, So Yoo-mi, and Bin Ye-seo have all advanced to the semifinals.
