MBN's 'The King of Singers 3' Reaches New Heights with Record-Breaking Ratings
The 8th episode of MBN's variety show 'The King of Singers 3', aired on the 10th, achieved a peak viewership rating of 12.8% and a nationwide rating of 11.8%, breaking its own record once again.
In this episode, following last week's performances by Kim Tae-yeon, Solji, and Bin Ye-seo, the remaining contestants competed in the third round's second stage, 'Fate War'. This round awarded a total of 900 points, three times more than the first round, leading to intense competition among the lower-ranked contestants.
Hai-ryang, who got another chance due to Sook-haeng's voluntary withdrawal, appeared in a modified hanbok and delivered a unique performance of 'Mersey Ggeokjeong'. Despite uniting everyone with her energy, she received feedback about her vocal condition and scored 298 out of 450 from the celebrity judges, causing a shock. Choo Da-hye, who ranked 16th in the first round, appeared nervous but captivated attention with her opening and scored 343 points with her unique voice in a traditional Korean style performance of 'Spring Rain'.
So Yoo-mi, who appeared in a trendy hip-hop style, chose 'Alleyway' and became the first in the series to rap, showcasing high-level hip-hop moves. She revealed her past as a member of a hip-hop crew 15 years ago and received 328 points with positive feedback. Kang Hye-yeon, who was at risk of elimination, showed anxiety but delivered an emotional performance of 'Nameless Bird', receiving 343 points and encouragement from the judges.
Koo Soo-kyung, who made history by ranking first in the first round, expressed her excitement but chose a challenging song, 'Far Away', and scored 340 points after struggling with high notes. Jang Tae-hee, with her striking figure, performed '10:50' with charm and humor, scoring 310 points.
The youngest contestant, Lee Soo-yeon, chose 'Monologue' and delivered a flawless performance, receiving 410 points and praise from the original composer. Geum Jan-di, who received harsh criticism in the first round, completed her performance of 'Kkochimi' with 313 points, showing her resilience.
Kim Joo-yi, who narrowly survived elimination, chose 'Weeds' and delivered a powerful performance, scoring 348 points. Hong Ja expressed her desire to be unmatched in her genre and performed 'Lover', receiving 362 points and praise for her unique voice.
After the third round concluded, the final rankings were announced, with Solji in 1st place, Kim Tae-yeon in 2nd, Lee Soo-yeon in 3rd, and Cha Ji-yeon in 4th, securing their spots in the semifinals.
However, Stephanie, So Yoo-mi, Kang Hye-yeon, Kim Joo-yi, Bin Ye-seo, Jang Tae-hee, Hai-ryang, and Choo Da-hye faced elimination and entered the revival round.
In the revival round, the celebrity judges voted for one contestant who didn't perform well, with the two receiving the most votes being eliminated. In the first group, Kang Hye-yeon survived with zero votes, while Choo Da-hye was eliminated first, followed by Jang Tae-hee after a revote.
In the second group, Bin Ye-seo, Stephanie, Hai-ryang, and So Yoo-mi performed 'Dollido', with Stephanie and Hai-ryang being unexpectedly eliminated. After the semifinals were set, Solji emerged as the MVP with over 1000 points, expressing her growth and anticipation for the semifinals.
