Former Baseball Star Hwang Jae-gyun Opens Up About Retirement and Desire for Parenthood
On the January 31st episode of MBC's variety show 'The Manager,' Hwang's post-retirement life was featured.
Hwang spoke about the perks of retirement, saying, "As a player, I couldn't take medication even for a cold due to doping regulations. I couldn't even apply ointment freely. Recently, when I was sick, I asked for the best IV treatment, and I recovered in a day." He also mentioned enjoying alcohol and hangover remedies without restrictions.
Discussing his future plans, Hwang expressed interest in various fields, saying, "I've thought about many things. I'd like to try commentary in baseball. I also love fashion, so I want to lose weight and start a brand. If opportunities arise, I'd like to try broadcasting as well." He firmly ruled out becoming a coach.
Hwang's single apartment was also revealed, featuring a stunning view of the Han River and a sleek interior. A corner of the living room caught attention with baby items, which Hwang explained belonged to his nephew.
Hwang admitted, "I want to have a son and teach him baseball," but also nodded in agreement when his manager suggested having a daughter. He shared, "Watching my nephew Rohan made me really want to have my own child." He was moved to tears by his manager's words of encouragement.
Hwang married T-ara's Jiyeon in December 2022, but they divorced in 2024. It is reported that they reached an agreement on property division during the divorce proceedings.
