Bae Soo-bin Reflects on the Conclusion of TVING Original 'Dear X'
The TVING original 'Dear X' premiered on the 6th of last month and concluded amidst great buzz, maintaining the top spot for new subscriber contributions for four consecutive weeks.
In the series, Bae Soo-bin portrayed Baek Seon-kyu, a cold-hearted father who sees his daughter Baek Ah-jin (played by Kim Yoo-jung) merely as a means to make money. His chilling portrayal of the villain, characterized by a blend of coldness and madness, heightened the tension in every scene he appeared in. His intense confrontations with Kim Yoo-jung and his maniacal gaze left a strong impression, reaffirming his status as a 'trustworthy actor.'
Particularly memorable was the scene where Baek Seon-kyu falls into the trap set by Baek Ah-jin, leading to his downfall. Bae Soo-bin's explosive emotions in this scene brought the tension to its peak, as he transitioned from a deranged laugh to expressions of anger and despair, culminating in a display of unrestrained violence.
◇ How do you feel about the conclusion of 'Dear X'?
I feel a mix of relief and sadness. It was a meaningful time where I poured everything into the role, albeit briefly. I am grateful to all the production staff and viewers.
◇ What was your main focus while portraying Baek Seon-kyu? Any memorable scenes?
I focused on transparently and vividly depicting the ruin brought by possessiveness and obsession. The rooftop scene in episodes 3 and 4, where I confronted my on-screen daughter Baek Ah-jin and met my demise, stands out the most. It felt like my character existed solely for that moment.
◇ How was it reuniting with Kim Yoo-jung after 15 years?
Working with Kim Yoo-jung again made me a fan of hers. The process of collaborating after such a long time was immensely enjoyable. I look forward to reuniting in another project in the future.
◇ Any final words for the viewers?
Thank you for loving and supporting 'Dear X.' The positive response to a project that the actors and production team put their all into is incredibly rewarding. I hope warmth fills everyone's daily lives.
