Go Hyun-jung Emerges as Strong Contender for SBS Drama Awards with 'Mantis: The Murderer's Outing'

Go Hyun-jung has redefined her career with 'Mantis'. The drama, which premiered on the 5th, begins with a copycat crime occurring 20 years after the capture of the notorious serial killer, Mantis. The plot follows a detective who collaborates with his estranged mother, the original Mantis, to solve the case.

Viewers have responded enthusiastically, with comments such as "Go Hyun-jung will win the acting award this year," "Her acting is superb," and "There's no one else deserving of the award."

SBS holds both triumph and tribulation for Go Hyun-jung. In 2018, during her appearance in SBS's 'Return', rumors of discord with the director and alleged assault led to her mid-series departure. SBS subsequently replaced her with Park Jin-hee. 'Mantis' marks her return to SBS after seven years.

Her commitment is reflected in her performance, delivering a convincing portrayal without forced smiles or exaggerated tones. She conveyed emotions through her breath and gaze, leaving viewers chilled with her intense expressions. Although the narrative centers on her son, played by Jang Dong-yoon, Go Hyun-jung's presence is undeniably powerful.
Following 'Mantis', SBS plans to air dramas such as 'Woojoo Merry Me' starring Choi Woo-shik and Jung So-min, 'Kiss Sixth Sense' featuring Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin, and 'Taxi Driver 3' with Lee Je-hoon and Pyo Ye-jin. Industry insiders speculate that unless these follow-up dramas make a significant impact, Go Hyun-jung is likely to be a top contender for the acting award.
