Behind the Scenes: Yang Se-jong's Underwater Adventure in 'Low Life'
Yang Se-jong shares his experience of filming underwater scenes in heavy diving suits for 'Low Life'.

Recently, at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul, actor Yang Se-jong, who stars in the Disney+ original series 'Low Life', shared insights into his role.

Set in 1977, 'Low Life' tells the story of villagers competing to claim a treasure ship buried under the sea. The series is based on the webtoon 'Fine'.

Yang Se-jong plays the role of Oh Hee-dong, a novice who becomes enamored with money. Following his uncle Oh Gwan-seok (played by Ryu Seung-ryong), Hee-dong has been involved in thievery since childhood. He joins his uncle in a quest to retrieve treasure from the Shinan Sea, where he encounters Yang Jeong-sook (played by Im Soo-jung) and coffee shop employee Seon-ja (played by Kim Min), leading to complex emotions.

In the series, the treasure hunters take turns wearing heavy diving suits to descend into the sea. Yang Se-jong explained, "There are about five professional divers in Korea, and one of them was on set. It was quite dangerous. We actually went underwater after receiving prior training. It was scary at first, but after two or three dives, I got used to it."

Yang Se-jong added, "You have to adjust the pressure while ascending. The diving suit is extremely heavy, with the helmet alone weighing around 20kg. It's made of metal, and it felt like my shoulders were going to break." He continued, "We were a team, supporting each other to avoid shoulder pain." He also noted, "When we went out to the actual sea, the sunlight was incredibly intense. This summer was particularly hot."
