Im Si-wan Discusses His Villainous Role in 'Squid Game' Season 3

On October 2, an interview was conducted with Im Si-wan, who plays Myung-gi, at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. In 'Squid Game' Season 3, Myung-gi is a cryptocurrency investment YouTuber who joins the game and faces internal conflict upon encountering his ex-girlfriend Jun-hee, played by Jo Yu-ri, who is pregnant with his child. His ruthless performance, prioritizing debt repayment over his ex-girlfriend and child, has shocked audiences worldwide.
During the interview, Im Si-wan stated, "While filming, I thought the worst character was Thanos, played by Choi Seung-hyun, or Nam-kyu, portrayed by Noh Jae-won, was a strong contender."
He further explained, "Myung-gi is quite shallow. He seems to face reality. He does think about Jun-hee, but seeing her situation and the extent of her injuries led him to a logical conclusion. He saw her injuries as severe and her survival as unlikely. Approaching it logically, he turned away from Jun-hee even when she was right in front of him. It's challenging to defend such an unreasonable character."
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk also commented, "Realistically, Myung-gi seems like a truly bad person. Despite his intentions, he can't overcome his selfishness at critical moments."
Im Si-wan admitted, "After seeing the final product, I somewhat agree with the director. It seems many have already seen the seeds of Myung-gi's character."
