Writer Jeong You-jeong confesses to fighting cancer for the first time
In today's (8th) episode of TV CHOSUN's 'On the Shoulders of Giants – Borrowing Life' (hereafter referred to as 'On the Shoulders of Giants'), 'Korea's Stephen King' novelist Jeong You-jeong will appear to share her personal story.
'On the Shoulders of Giants' is a lecture program where 20 'giants' from various fields such as health, history, science, art, and society share their experiences and dilemmas on their journey to success, offering answers and comfort to those at life's crossroads.
The eighth giant, Jeong You-jeong, a leading thriller writer in Korea, will lend her life experiences. Jeong You-jeong first gained attention in the literary world by winning the 1st World Youth Literature Award. Her subsequent works, including 'Shoot Me in the Heart,' 'Seven Years of Night,' and 'Perfect Happiness,' became bestsellers, with cumulative sales reaching 2 million copies, earning her the title of 'star author.' Her representative work 'Seven Years of Night' has been translated and published in 22 countries and was adapted into a film starring Jang Dong-gun, Ryu Seung-ryong, Song Sae-byeok, and Go Kyung-pyo.
On this day, Jeong You-jeong appeared with long hair, a departure from her trademark short hair. She revealed for the first time on television that the reason she couldn't grow her hair was due to her battle with cancer, shocking everyone. Meeting her readers after a long time, Jeong You-jeong candidly shared why she had to keep her decade-long cancer battle a secret and the tears she shed in private during her tough fight.
