'In the age of content overload'. For readers who are having trouble deciding what to watch, Tae-Yu Na, a reporter for Ten Asia, will be your 'entertainment guide'. She will delve into the hottest issues in the entertainment industry, as well as the points to watch, key figures, and behind-the-scenes stories, adding to the fun of watching the program.
Broadcaster Dex was a godsend for Disney+ variety show 'The Zone: Hang In There Season 3' (hereafter referred to as 'The Zone 3'). From silliness to romantic chemistry, he shows off his diverse charms in each episode, showing off his indispensable presence. However, the empty endings and awkward editing points that have continued since Season 1 are still there. The directing that fails to properly utilize the members' great chemistry remains a continuing homework.
'The Zone 3', which was first released on the 7th, is a variety show featuring 'Zone Buzz' Yoo Jae-suk, Kwon Yu-ri, Kim Dong-hyun, and Dex, who have returned stronger to endure the extreme real-life empathy mission for only 4 hours. 'The Zone 3', of which episodes 1-3 were released, contains the members' appearances as they face various places and situations, such as Yoo Jae-suk's world 'AI Zone', the paper house 'Break Zone', and the abandoned resort 'Fact Check Zone'. The biggest change in this season is the replacement of members. Lee Kwang-soo, who was with the cast in seasons 1 and 2, has left, and Dex and Kim Dong-hyun have joined.
The missions have also been strengthened due to the change in members. Previously, it was mainly about enduring disasters and such, but this time, situations where you have to use your strength to endure have been added. In particular, Yuri, who has shown the image of a 'woman warrior' who has been in control of Yoo Jae-suk and Lee Kwang-soo in previous seasons, showed a shy side in this season due to the strange romantic chemistry with Dex. In episode 2, when the paper house collapsed and planks flew towards Yuri, Dex protected her with his whole body, creating a sweet atmosphere reminiscent of 'Solo Hell'. At this, Yuri's ears turned red and she covered her face in embarrassment. This was the moment when Yoo Jae-suk found out the meaning of Yuri's constant calling out "Dex" during filming on YouTube's 'Excuse Me'.
In this way, Dex showed off perfect chemistry with anyone. Also, from his foolishness in opening a box by force and not even realizing that his watch was inside the box to his frightened appearance at the appearance of a ghost, his appearance that was the opposite of the masculinity he had shown so far made people laugh. However, there were also regrets. 'The Zone' broke the immersion from season 1 with somewhat messy editing. Although each scene was fun, it lacked the power to make you watch from beginning to end. In addition, some episodes ended in a somewhat absurd ending, creating a sense of emptiness.
This season, the sadistic part was removed and the story flow was set, but the ending was still disappointing. In particular, the members' appearance of avoiding endless AI attacks in the first episode was more bizarre than fun. However, in the third episode, the atmosphere of the existing 'The Zone' was reduced and a situation of taking over a deserted resort was added, raising interest and raising expectations for the next episode.
The addition of Dex and Kim Dong-hyun was refreshing, but the fundamental problems of 'The Zone' were not completely resolved. It would have been better if they had put more effort into the editing aspect to match the larger scale. 'The Zone 3' is an improvement, but it leaves something to be desired.
