Daniel Henney auditioned for Hollywood while traveling with his wife
Actor Noh Sang-hyun met Daniel Henney on JTBC's 'Actors' Association' broadcast on the 30th. Noh Sang-hyun had a special time meeting Daniel Henney, playing basketball, and learning Hollywood meeting know-how.
Daniel Henney says he's still auditioning even though it's been 15 years since he entered Hollywood. He confessed that the number of auditions he has seen so far is 500, and that he auditions an average of 20 to 30 times every year.
Daniel Henney said, “The biggest challenge for me right now is that although I have established myself as an actor in Korea, I am still struggling in the United States.”
Daniel Henney said, "I was on vacation in Paris, France with my wife when I suddenly got a call. They said there was an audition. I was currently in a hotel and had travel plans made in advance. But I had to go to this audition." He then explained, “I canceled all my schedules, changed the hotel room, moved the furniture, installed a background suitable for the audition, memorized the lines, and sent the video.”
But the result was no response. eliminated. Daniel Henney said, "My day with my wife was ruined. I was so angry that I called the manager's team and asked them to tell me why I was rejected. I was told, 'It's great and I like it, but it's a different direction.'"
In response, he said again, 'That's not enough, please tell me the proper reason.' They said he was rejected because he was too old. “I agreed,” he said. Daniel Henney said that he gained courage because his wife comforted him by saying, “It’s okay. Let’s keep working hard. It will be okay.”
Daniel Henney also spoke about the hardships he experienced as an Asian actor at the beginning of his Hollywood debut. He said, “At the time, all roles were for white men. Asian actors were limited to roles that practiced martial arts,” and “I never fell in love with the character I played.” He said, "But I just had to do it. Only after time passed was I able to act the way I wanted to."
Noh Sang-hyun asked, “Did you have any difficulties after ‘My Name is Kim Sam-soon’?” Daniel Henney confessed, "I was very stressed. Although 'Kim Sam-soon' was a huge success, the results were not good after that. I hit a downturn. I was frustrated that I couldn't surpass 'Kim Sam-soon,' so it took me a while to find my next project." .
