Park Seo-joon, "I'm hurt by the harsh criticism of 'Gyeongseong Creature,' so I stay away from it to avoid breaking down."
Park Seo-joon met with Ten Asia at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 10th and told various stories about the Netflix original series 'Gyeongseong Creature'.
'Gyeongseong Creature' is a work that tells the story of two young people whose only thing was survival, confronting a monster born of greed in the spring of 1945, when the darkness of the era was deepest. Park Seo-joon plays the role of Jang Tae-sang, the owner of Geumokdang, the largest pawn shop in Gyeongseong, and a person who holds all the necessary information in Bonjeong Street.
Regarding the reason for choosing 'Gyeongseong Creature', Park Seo-joon said, "I wanted to experience a period drama. There are many reasons, but the combination of a period drama and a creature was also refreshing, and the point was that it was a story that showed the various people living in that era. “Personally, when choosing a role, I think about how to show something new, and I thought a period drama would be an attractive setting,” he said.
As the filming period was long, were there any worries or burdens? Park Seo-joon said, "I started without thinking that it would last this long. I thought I had to do my best until the end. Instead of filming for two years, there was a gap of about three months. In the meantime, the production team prepared for Season 2. I, too, couldn't get my mind off the ground when I wasn't finished, so I was always in a state of tension. Fortunately, the staff didn't change even once in two years. I thought everyone had the same idea. I wondered if this is what it would feel like to work. "I felt like I was commuting to and from work. I felt a lot of meaning after being together for two years. I also felt a lot of regret when it ended," he said.
After its release, ‘Gyeongseong Creature’ received mixed reviews. Park Seo-joon said, "I humbly accept harsh criticism, but I get hurt. That's why I stay away from it. Because you can feel it on your own without having to talk about what you're disappointed with, it doesn't mean that you reject it when you tell me what you're disappointed with. Say more kind words. "I'm trying to take care. I don't want to break down," he said.
He continued, "It was not my will to release Part 1 and Part 2 separately. I acted with that in mind from beginning to end, so I am grateful that people looked at it favorably. Me, Han So-hee, and the director discussed such things. “I think there are some points where it would be good to split up to Part 2, and there might also be some points where it would be disappointing. But there are likes and dislikes about everything,” he added.
