Behind the scenes of the production of the drama 'Seonsan'
The Netflix series 'Seonsan' (director Min Hong-nam) revealed the story behind the creation of the work.
'Seonsan' is a Netflix series that depicts the story of a series of ominous events that occur when a person inherits a mountain left behind after the death of his uncle, whom he had forgotten even existed, and secrets related to it are revealed.
Director Yeon Sang-ho, who has a sharp view on human nature, including 'Hell', the Netflix movies 'Jungi', and 'Train to Busan', was in charge of planning and writing. After finishing the animation films ‘The King of Pigs’ and ‘Pseudo’, I was about to attempt my first live-action film, and ‘Train to Busan’ was released first. Afterwards, while planning a work with director Min Hong-nam, who worked as an assistant director on 'Train to Busan', 'Telekinesis', and 'Peninsula', he began developing the scenario together with writer Hwang Eun-young.
Director Yeon Sang-ho wanted to create “a mystery thriller whose starting point is an emotion that all Koreans can sympathize with,” and said, “The starting point of the ‘Seonsan’ project was to write a mystery thriller with a theme of ‘what kind of family is?’” .
Director Min Hong-nam said, "Wouldn't it be the most Korean and realistic thriller? I thought that asking the question 'What is family?' was a unique emotion that only 'Seonsan' had, so I focused on this part." He then explained that he focused on "Korean images, a space with a realistic yet strange atmosphere, undistorted angles, and music played with traditional instruments," and linked it to Korean roots and family history.
‘Seonsan’ will be released only on Netflix on January 19th.
