Jeong Dong-won, after the controversy, “I came to my senses, really.”
MBN's 'Earth Exploration Life', which will air its second episode on the 16th, contains the 'life and hardships project' in which 17-year-old Jeong Dong-won experiences life in a foreign country with a different race, language, and culture and struggles to survive. In the last broadcast, Dong-won Jeong left for Sri Lanka with a passport and only $100, stayed at a local's house, and faced all kinds of hardships, giving empathy and laughter.
In the second episode of 'Earth Exploration Life', which airs today, Dong-won Jeong meets 'nation's aunt' Kim Sook and sets out to survive in the even harsher conditions of Sri Lanka. First, Dong-won Jeong goes to work at Suddat's ice cream shop on the first day of the Sri Lankan New Year. After filling the endless stream of ice cream orders, he challenged his grandfather to the egg throwing game, just as he had promised. As Jeong Dong-won suffered a bitter defeat from a powerful one-shot by a local young man in last week's 'Gotapora', a gun battle on a log, it raises questions about whether he will be able to regain his pride this time and even bring a gift for his grandfather.
Jeong Dong-won, who continued his hard work during the holidays, moves to a resting place for Galle citizens to cool off for a while. Afterwards, he seemed to have adapted perfectly to the local life, playing in the water among the Sri Lankan children. In addition, Jeong Dong-won meets a local called 'diving man' who only exists in Sri Lanka, and watches the cool 'cliff diving' he has done for the first time in his life, and is surprised by the unique Sri Lankan culture.
Meanwhile, while Jeong Dong-won was distressed by an unexpected incident while participating in boiling Kiribat, one of Sri Lanka's Lunar New Year customs, Kim Sook makes a dramatic appearance and impresses the audience. As soon as Jeong Dong-won sees Kim Sook, who arrived in Sri Lanka after a whopping 20 hours, he expresses his joy and asks, "Why did you come now?" and has a tearful reunion with Kim Sook.
However, the joy is short-lived as Kim Sook rolls up her sleeves to serve rice cake soup, a representative Korean holiday food, to her local family as a New Year's meal in Sri Lanka. Jeong Dong-won, who became an assistant chef, gets tired of Kim Sook's endless instructions and calls, such as peeling garlic and chopping green onions barefoot. Next, a conversation unfolds between 'national aunt' Kim Sook, who shouts, "Our Dongwon must grow properly," and 'K-youth' Jeong Dong-won, who replies, "You've come to your senses, really."
Accordingly, this broadcast makes people even more curious about what kind of cross-generational chemistry Jeong Dong-won and Kim Sook will provide, and whether the rice cake soup recipe that the two people combined will successfully capture the tastes of local people.
