10th class Oksoon and Yoo Hyeoncheol start living together ahead of remarriage... '290 Million' PD "Neither Encouragement nor Discouragement of Marriage"
Producer Lee Won-woong of 'Steel Troop' and writer Kang Sook-kyung of 'Physical: 100', united in tvN's new variety show '290 Million', revealed the honest reason for planning 'Real Couple Survival of Pre-Couple'.
'290 Million', which will be broadcasted for the first time on July 2, is an overwhelming scale real couple survival show in which 10 couples with various stories prove each other's trust and love and run toward the finish line of marriage. Yoo Hyeon-cheol and Kim Seul-gi, a couple who gained a lot of attention by appearing on the variety shows 'Doll Singles' and 'I'm Solo', are participating and catching attention. Meanwhile, ahead of the first broadcast of '290 Million', the first interview between producer Lee Won-woong and writer Kang Sook-kyung was released. Below is a Q&A with the production team.Q. '290 Million' is a work where the two of you are in harmony once again following 'Steel Troops'. After 'Steel Troops' (PD Lee Won-woong) and 'Physical: 100' (Writer Kang Sook-kyung), you came to show '290 Million' about marriage. What was the background to planning '290 Million' with marriage as the subject matter?
PD Lee Won-woong: In 2020, when ' Steel Troops' was planned, fears about the coronavirus and the crisis of war were rampant around the world. Now, three years later, it seems that home, marriage, couple, and family are in crisis. Many people said that the reason was because of 'money'. So I wondered if the reason why the current generation is avoiding marriage is really because they don't have money. Therefore, after giving the prospective couple an extreme mission that could not be overcome if they did not have faith and love for each other, they verified each other's love and made a setting where they could even take the prize money if they were lucky. Even if you don't win the prize money, if you go back after confirming your love for each other, I think it will be an invaluable experience for the two of you who are about to get married.
Writer Kang Sook-kyung: Watching the previous work 'Physical: 100' rank first on Netflix's global rankings gave me a sense of joy and the fact that entertainment content produced in Korea will receive global attention in the future. Maybe that's why it was difficult to choose the next work, and although the project for '290 Million' was fresh, the message of marriage was too difficult, so I hesitated. However, I already felt camaraderie with PD Lee Won-woong through 'Steel Troop', and I was convinced that I could create a new program if I overcome difficulties well based on fresh material.
Q. The title '290 million' seems to contain the current era. What does the title mean and why does it reflect the times in the content?
Lee Won-woong PD: The title of the program was inspired by the average wedding cost of newlyweds who got married within the last two years, which was 290 million won, researched by a marriage information company. When I first heard this number, I felt a distant and intense feeling that I could not reach. In fact, even if you have '290 million won', the reality that you cannot have a rich wedding in Korea now feels harsher.
At some point, as the channels for distributing video content diversified, the quality increased and competition intensified. As a producer of television content, I believe that what sets television apart from other content is 'timeliness'. That's why I've been paying more attention to the reality that the Republic of Korea is facing and the points that the people are worried about these days.
Q. What was the most important part of planning for '290 Million'?
Writer Kang Sook-kyung: '290 Million' is a survival story of couples who have never been in love before. So, I thought over and over again about what kind of mission I should do, and I repeated countless corrections and supplements. In the end, we decided to emphasize the unfamiliar experiences that come from the process of carrying out missions as a team of men and women. The experience may confirm love or doubt love, but I am sure it will give prospective couples the strength to run more firmly toward marriage.
Q. Then, what is 'marriage' in your opinion?
Writer Kang Sook-kyung: As someone who has already been married, it's harder to say what marriage is. There seems to be a reason why love is said to 'fall in' and marriage is said to be 'decided'. Marriage is only possible when there is a determination to become spouses to each other and to continue that love endlessly. I don't think it's possible if you have 290 million won, and it's not impossible if you don't have it.
Q. Why do viewers have to watch '290 Million'?
PD Lee Won-woong: '290 Million' is not a content that encourages marriage, nor is it a content that discourages marriage. The production team believes that watching '10 couples in love enough to dream of getting married' is the greatest pleasure of '290 Million'.
10 couples are deeply in love with each other in 10 ways. Because of that method, they fight, cry, and even overcome extreme trials and become frustrated. If possible, I would like to give '290 million won' to every participating couple. However, when I look at the couples who drop out and go back, surprisingly, there were no couples who were discouraged. Looking at the back of them holding hands with a bright smile and going back, I thought it was a very meaningful shoot.
I think viewers can view '290 Million' as a fierce survival story, as a romantic observation of a man and a woman chatting, or as a life practice for young people who are facing the extreme ordeal of marriage. No matter what kind of content it is, I am sure that '290 Million' is a romantic program based on sincerity.
Writer Kang Sook-kyung: The mission of '290 Million' is physically and mentally harsh and intense. I think that even a mission that would be impossible alone is enough to create a couple that viewers can cheer for with emotion. In addition, 10 couples live together in the '290,000' camp with no visits, and the candid expressions of affection and strong personalities of the lovers will provide a different kind of fun that has never been seen in previous survival programs. no see. However, the friendship of 10 couples who have met in common as a married couple will not be able to avoid the survival game that survives only if someone is eliminated.
'290 Million' will be broadcast for the first time on the 2nd of next month at 7:45 pm.
