Tony Award-Winning Writer Hue Park Discusses Life Changes and Partnership with Composer Will Aronson

Hue Park, the writer of the musical 'Maybe Happy Ending,' shared insights into his life after winning a Tony Award and his relationship with fellow composer Will Aronson.

On the 300th episode of tvN's variety show 'You Quiz on the Block,' which aired on the 2nd, Hue Park, who won six Tony Awards, appeared as a guest. Host Yoo Jae-suk introduced him by saying, "A creative musical that started in a small theater in Daehakro nine years ago has swept the Tony Awards less than a year after debuting on Broadway."

Hue Park remarked, "I was unknown on Broadway. Just being nominated was surprising," and added, "Now, wherever I go in the U.S., I'm referred to as 'Tony Winner Hue Park' or 'Tony Nominee Hue Park.'"

Premiered in 2016, 'Maybe Happy Ending' made its Broadway debut this year, eight years later, and won six awards at the 2025 Tony Awards held in New York, including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Scenic Design, and Best Leading Actor in a Musical.

Hue Park recalled, "I originally worked as a lyricist for pop songs in Korea and studied visual arts at NYU. Will majored in musicals, and a mutual friend introduced us." He continued, "Will was offered to adapt 'Bungee Jumping of Their Own' into a musical and wanted to work with me, which is how I started as a musical lyricist."

During the awards ceremony, Hue Park humorously stated, "We didn't come as a couple," bringing laughter to the audience.

In a video call with 'You Quiz,' Will Aronson shared, "Meeting Hue changed my life completely. He's an inspiring friend, and it was a stroke of luck to meet him." He added, "The robot idea in 'Maybe Happy Ending' was emotionally unique, and I wanted to create that story together."
