BTS' 'Butter' ranks first in Japanese Oricon era rankings

According to the 'Reiwa (Japanese era starting from 2019) ranking' announced by Japan's Oricon on the 12th, BTS' single CD 'Butter', released in July 2021, ranked first in sales by work. Ranked 1st on the ‘Comprehensive Single Ranking’. This ranking was calculated based on sales in Japan from May 2019 to January 2024. BTS is the first foreign singer to take the top spot in the Oricon era ranking's 'summary single ranking'.
The single CD 'Butter' contains instrumental versions of two songs, the song of the same name released by BTS in May 2021 and the new song 'Permission to Dance'. This album recorded over 3.2 million streams and over 230,000 digital single sales during the ranking period, earning a total of 3,434,886 points.
The only two works that earned more than 3 million points in this ranking are 'Butter' and '夜に駆ける' (Yorunikakeru/Running at Night), released in 2019 by Japanese mixed band YOASOBI. BTS once again proved their unrivaled popularity by taking first place in the 'combined single ranking', beating Yoasobi, who is considered a popular Japanese artist.
In addition, BTS' single 'Dynamite', released in August 2020, ranked 4th in this ranking with 2,897,165 points. In addition to the song and instrumental version of the same name, 'Dynamite' includes four remix tracks including Acoustic, EDM, Tropical, and Poolside.
In the 'Streaming Ranking' in the sales category by work, BTS' first English song 'Dynamite' ranked 3rd with more than 760 million plays, and their second English song 'Butter' ranked 3rd with 540 million plays. It was located above. 'Permission to Dance', released in July 2021, ranked 24th on this chart with over 407 million plays.
In particular, 'Dynamite' surpassed 700 million cumulative views for the first time by a foreign artist in the history of Oricon's 'Streaming Rankings'. At the time of its release, 'Butter' was so popular that it ranked first in Oricon's 'Weekly Streaming Ranking' for 8 consecutive weeks, and 'Permission to Dance' ranked first in the 'Combined Single Ranking' in the sales volume category by work in the 2021 Oricon annual rankings.
